WynTree pilot: Point Cook Coastal Park

Parks Victoria’s Rangers House provides a 2,700 m² home for WynTree, CACL’s first community-owned tree nursery. Here, volunteers, Work-for-the-Dole participants, and partners collaborate from seed to advanced tree.

Why Point Cook matters

Point Cook Coastal Park sits on Bunurong Country and is central to Wyndham’s ambition to lift canopy cover from 3.6% to 25% by 2030. The rent-free site allows CACL to invest in propagation equipment, shade houses, and training instead of overheads.

Infrastructure in place

Nursery benches, irrigation, and climate-controlled spaces support up to 25,000 seedlings and 15,000 advanced trees ready for planting across the west.

Backyard growers

The WynTree Friends Group complements onsite work by nurturing kits at home, widening participation for families and new volunteers.

Volunteer and employment pathways

CACL integrates multiple learning streams to build a skilled green workforce while improving community wellbeing.

WynTree Friends Group

A Parks Victoria Park Connect group that welcomes volunteers regardless of cultural background, with structured shifts and peer mentoring.

Work-for-the-Dole placements

Participants gain horticulture, logistics, and customer service experience while supporting nursery operations and planting days.

Corporate volunteering

Businesses partner with CACL to host planting events, upskill staff, and contribute to canopy restoration at scale.

Scaling the nursery network

With proven operations in Point Cook, CACL is exploring replication in other outer western suburbs and across Victoria. Future sites will leverage research collaborations with PhD students on tree mapping, carbon analytics, and adopt-a-tree programs.
